JoSAA 2027 Schedule Highlights & Key Milestones
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) releases the unified admissions timetable for 23 IITs, 32 NITs, 26 IIITs, and 40 GFTIs right after the declaration of the JEE Advanced 2027 results. The whole process spans approximately 4 to 5 weeks across multiple critical stages.
Understanding key deadlines is vital because missing an online reporting cutoff or failing to respond to a verification query within the stipulated 24-hour window leads to automatic seat cancellation and permanent disqualification from all subsequent JoSAA rounds.
Pro-Tip for Candidates: Registration on josaa.nic.in is 100% free. You only pay the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) after you are successfully allotted a seat in any round. Use our JEE Main College Predictor and JEE Advanced College Predictor to assemble your choice list well in advance.

Detailed Stage-by-Stage Candidate Action Plan
Log in using your JEE Main 2027 Application Number and Password (JEE Advanced candidates use their Advanced credentials). Fill out personal information, verify category status, and add all desired college and branch choices in descending order of preference.
- No registration fee is charged during this phase.
- Add as many choices as you qualify for (no upper limit on choice count).
- Put dream choices at the top, realistic choices in the middle, and safety backups at the bottom.
JoSAA generates two automated mock seat allotments based on real-time candidate choices. Mock allocations indicate what seat you would receive if choices were locked at that moment.
- Mock results do not guarantee final seat allotment.
- Use mock feedback to reorder choices, add missing options, and remove undesired branches.
You must manually lock your choices and print the locked choice slip. If you forget to click lock, the system will automatically auto-lock your last saved choices when the countdown expires. Once locked, choices can never be modified during subsequent rounds.
If you receive a seat in Round 1, you must perform mandatory Online Reporting before the round deadline:
- Step 1 — Document Upload: Class 10 Certificate, Class 12 Marksheet, Category/EWS/OBC-NCL Certificate (issued on/after April 1, 2027), PwD Certificate, Medical Certificate, and Cancelled Cheque/Passbook.
- Step 2 — Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF): ₹35,000 for GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL (₹17,500 for SC/ST/PwD) via Net Banking/UPI/Debit Card.
- Step 3 — Willingness Selection: Choose Freeze (accept and confirm), Float (accept but want higher choices across all colleges), or Slide (accept but want higher branches in the same college).
Candidates with Float/Slide options will automatically move up to higher preferences if seats open up. Candidates already holding an upgraded seat do not need to re-pay SAF or re-upload documents. Check your candidate portal daily to address verification officer queries within 24 hours.
Crucial Deadline Rules: Non-Reporting, Queries & Withdrawals
Consequences of Missing Online Reporting
If a candidate is allotted a seat for the first time in any round and fails to pay SAF, upload documents, or submit willingness by the specified round deadline, the allotted seat is automatically forfeited. The candidate is permanently removed from all subsequent JoSAA rounds.
Document Verification Query Window
Reporting verifying officers may raise queries regarding blurred document uploads, category certificate validity, or state code of eligibility. Candidates must respond and upload corrected proofs within the given round query window (usually 24–48 hours) to prevent cancellation.
IIT Seat Withdrawal Cutoff Rule: Candidates holding an IIT seat who wish to withdraw and claim a fee refund must submit their withdrawal request during Round 2, Round 3, or Round 4. There is strictly NO withdrawal permitted in the final round for IIT seats. For the NIT+ system, seats can still be surrendered before transitioning to CSAB Special Rounds.
