What is JEE Advanced 2027?
JEE Advanced (Joint Entrance Examination — Advanced) is the second tier of the JEE system in India. It is a highly challenging, national-level engineering entrance exam conducted by one of the seven zonal Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). Only the top 2,50,000 qualifiers of JEE Main are eligible to sit for JEE Advanced. Qualifying this examination is the sole criteria for admission to undergraduate programs leading to Bachelor's, Integrated Master's, or Bachelor-Master Dual Degrees in engineering, sciences, and architecture at all the 23 IITs.
JEE Advanced 2027 consists of two compulsory papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2) conducted on the same day. Candidates must appear in both papers to qualify for the rank list. Eligibility Criteria
To sit for the JEE Advanced 2027 exam, candidates must satisfy all five criteria set by the Joint Admission Board. Failure to meet any eligibility clause leads to immediate disqualification.
Performance in JEE Main
- Must rank within the top 2,50,000 unique candidates in JEE Main 2027 Paper 1.
- Category-wise shares: Gen (10.1%), GEN-EWS (10%), OBC-NCL (27%), SC (15%), ST (7.5%), PwD (5% horizontal in each).
Age Limit & Attempts
- Born on or after October 1, 2002.
- SC, ST, and PwD candidates get a 5-year relaxation (born on or after October 1, 1997).
- Maximum of 2 attempts in consecutive years.

OCI/PIO and Foreign National Candidates
- As per the Supreme Court ruling, OCI/PIO cards obtained before March 4, 2021 are treated as Indian nationals and qualify through the standard categories.
- Foreign national candidates (non-OCI/PIO cardholders) do not receive reservation quotas. Up to 10% supernumerary seats are allocated for international students.
- All international students studying in India must qualify for the JEE Advanced via the standard JEE Main ranking path.

The application portal for JEE Advanced 2027 opens soon after the announcement of JEE Main results. The process must be completed online via `jeeadv.ac.in`.

Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme
The JEE Advanced exam pattern is dynamic and undergoes changes yearly. The exam is conducted in English and Hindi via Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode only. Candidates must appear in both Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Marking Scheme Details
Negative Marking Rule: Multiple choice questions (especially single/multi-correct) contain negative markings. Numerical questions and Integer value questions do not carry negative markings. Check questions' header instructions carefully inside the exam terminal.

JoSAA Counselling - Admission to IITs
Once rank standings are declared, standard online counselling is coordinated by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). JoSAA registration and online choice-locking begins in the first week of June 2027. Qualified candidates list their branches in decreasing order of preference.
