What is DASA UG Scheme 2027?
Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) is a flagship Government of India scheme coordinated under the Ministry of Education. It facilitates direct admission for Foreign Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) to premier Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, including NITs, IIEST Shibpur, IIITs, and Schools of Planning and Architecture (SPAs).
Admissions under DASA are supernumerary (over and above regular sanctioned capacity) up to 15% of total seats. All admissions are conducted strictly based on the candidate's JEE Main 2027 CRL (Common Rank List) rank conducted by the National Testing Agency.
SAT Scores are NO LONGER Valid: Since academic year 2021, SAT Subject Tests have been permanently replaced. All applicants wishing to apply for DASA 2027 or CIWG must register for and take the NTA JEE Main 2027 examination.
DASA Scheme vs CIWG (Gulf Quota) Scheme Comparison
CIWG (Children of Indian Workers in Gulf) is a distinct sub-category within DASA where 1/3rd (5% out of 15%) of total supernumerary seats are reserved exclusively for children of Indian parents employed in the 6 GCC Gulf nations.
| Parameters | CIWG Scheme (Gulf Quota) | DASA Scheme (General / Non-Gulf) |
|---|---|---|
| Eligible Countries | 6 Gulf Countries: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain | All other global countries (US, UK, Singapore, Canada, SAARC, etc.) |
| Seat Allocation Quota | 1/3rd of total DASA seats (5% of total college intake) | 2/3rd of total DASA seats (10% of total college intake) |
| Tuition Fee Structure | Indian Domestic Rate: ~₹1,25,000 per year (INR) | Non-SAARC: USD 8,000/yr | SAARC: USD 4,000/yr |
| Parental Employment Proof | Mandatory: Parent work visa, employer certificate & passport | Not required (Student passport and education abroad proof) |
| Dual Eligibility Benefit | CIWG candidates automatically compete in both CIWG and DASA quotas | Compete only within general DASA category |
| Cutoff Ranks Trend | Slightly more competitive due to Indian fee benefit | More relaxed closing ranks for top branches |
