What is CSAB? Who Can Participate in Special Rounds?

CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) conducts Special Rounds after JoSAA rounds conclude to fill remaining vacant seats in NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and GFTIs. CSAB typically conducts Special Round 1 and Special Round 2, along with a NEUT supernumerary round for candidates from North Eastern states and Union Territories.

Who is eligible? Candidates who appeared in JoSAA but were NOT allotted a seat, candidates who were allotted but did NOT report, or fresh candidates with a valid JEE Main 2026 rank meeting the minimum cutoff. All fresh candidates must pay the CSAB participation fee (₹4,000 General / ₹2,000 SC/ST/PwD).

Important: Candidates who reported to JoSAA and accepted a seat may participate in CSAB only by expressing willingness to forfeit their existing seat. The JoSAA seat acceptance fee (₹35,000–₹40,000) is non-refundable in this case.

Frequently Asked Questions – CSAB College Predictor

All JEE Main 2026 qualified candidates who meet the minimum qualifying cutoff are eligible. This includes: (1) candidates who participated in JoSAA but were not allotted any seat in rounds 1–6, (2) candidates who were allotted but did not report to the institute, and (3) fresh candidates who did not participate in JoSAA. Candidates with a JoSAA-allotted and accepted seat can also participate but must surrender their existing seat.
CSAB closing ranks for NITs are typically 5–20% more relaxed than JoSAA Round 6 closing ranks. For General category, CSE at top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal) closes around 3,000–5,000 CRL. Mid-NITs CSE closes around 15,000–25,000. Non-CS branches in tier-2 NITs may close around 60,000–1,00,000+. Home State quota offers 30–50% further relaxation.
The CSAB participation fee is ₹4,000 for General/OBC/EWS candidates and ₹2,000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates. This fee is non-refundable. However, if you receive a seat allotment and report to the institute, this ₹4,000 is adjusted against the first-semester tuition fee.
NEUT (North Eastern Union Territory) is a supernumerary quota under CSAB that provides additional seats above the normal sanctioned intake for candidates from North Eastern States (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura) and Union Territories. These are additional seats in NITs only and the closing ranks can be significantly more relaxed than regular quota.
Yes. CSAB Special Rounds are independent rounds. After Round 1 results, if you are not satisfied with your allotment or were not allotted a seat, you can participate in Round 2 with a fresh or revised choice list. The choice-filling window opens fresh before each CSAB round.
